FRIM - Forest Research Institute Malaysia

FRIM promotes sustainable management and optimal use of forest resources by generating knowledge and technology through research, development and application. FRIM’s wide-ranging expertise, award-winning research and international collaborations have earned the institute a name for itself in tropical forestry.

ETHNO-BOTANIC GARDEN

Tongkat Ali and Kacip Fatimah’s are two of the popular medicinal plants that can be found here. The garden displays botanical resources traditionally used by local communities.

KEPONG BOTANICAL GARDENS

The Kepong Botanical Gardens is developed to be the center for living plant collections mainly for Malaysian plants. This garden will create research opportunities in botany, horticulture, landscape and other related fields. Plants from the wild will be systematically collected and planted in the garden for display and as a center for ex-situ conservation. Horticulture and landscaping education, research and development will be another strong feature of the garden.

ARBORETA

An arboretum is a collection of living trees. The purpose of such collection can vary from that of scientific study or the conservation of genetic resources, to the less serious purpose of exhibiting plants as in a botanical garden. FRIM has six different arboreta; the Dipterocarp Arboretum, the Non-dipterocarp arboretum, the Coniferatum, the Fruit Tree Arboretum, the Monocot Arboretum, and the Bambusetum which were established in 1939, 1929, 1949, 1979, 1981, and 1994 respectively.
